Since 2009 HIQA has been responsible for the inspection and registration of nursing homes in Ireland. The regulations as set down by HIQA give us the criteria against which all nursing home care services are measured. Compliance with these regulations must be achieved and maintained in order for a service to continue without specified conditions.
The National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland provide a framework for providers for the continual development of person-centred, safe & effective residential services. They also provide people living in residential care with a guide as to what they should expect from residential services.
Having been involved directly with HIQA since 2009 to ensure the compliance with regulations for his own nursing home, Liam has in-depth knowledge of the regulations and standards and is well placed to advise on all aspects of HIQA compliance.
